I can remember how the color of the lights blurred together
and dulled in that muddled spectrum when you
whispered something in my ear that was only
a buzz, a mumble, slurred together and indistinguishable.
The youth were bursting from their own chests at the sound of
some tale that was consumed in its own nothingness.
And you glossed over my hand with your fingers but
your skin felt like a new pair of gloves and in the novelty I shivered
as the bass around us was a vibration running through our blood streams,
so bonded to our bodies we couldn't hear it anymore.
The stars hid behind the steel-sculpted mountains,
and surrounded by that looming, unyielding void we were left
to be swallowed up by the emptiness of the night.
